Hwasa Opens Up About Dealing with Criticism, Confidence, and the Struggles of Being a “Hot Girl”
On April 12, singer Hwasa appeared on the YouTube channel “The Reporter’s Heart-to-Heart Interview.” When asked how she reacts when people criticize or spread negative rumors about her, she responded, “It’s happened before, and looking back, I just pretended not to know and took better care of them. I felt bad for them. I believe that kind of behavior comes from jealousy.”
Hwasa continued, “I heard a lot of people say that person was talking badly about me. It was clear the criticism wasn’t because I did something wrong, but because they were jealous. So I felt sorry for them and thought, ‘I should be even kinder. I should be so good they get even more jealous.’”

When asked about the source of her confidence, Hwasa said, “It’s hard to pinpoint one thing. But if I had to name a reason I can be bold, it’s definitely hard work. Also, I’ve always had a habit of reflecting deeply on myself from a young age. That can make you go through dark times—it’s difficult, but that period is really important.”
She also shared her thoughts on how to become a “sexy hot girl.” Laughing, she said, “You have to work on your appearance a lot. It’s hard for me too. Being a hot girl is really tough. I’ve shed tears of blood trying.”

Still, Hwasa believes true sexiness comes from within, “At the end of the day, being a sexy hot girl is about personality. Even if you’re just wearing a tank top and jeans, there’s a mature vibe, a charm that makes the air around you feel alive. That’s what makes someone a real hot girl.”
Hwasa has faced frequent criticism for her bold image, including a police investigation in 2023 over a university performance and backlash for her braless airport look in 2019. Despite this, she remains unapologetic, often attributing the hate to jealousy and societal discomfort with her confidence.
